Support we offer

Our services are specifically for young Londoners, aged between 16-25 years, who need housing advice and support. If this is you, we can work alongside you.

What we do

We offer non-judgemental housing and homelessness advice which is right for you. We work with young Londoners from all backgrounds, no matter your situation. This including support from our LGBTQIA+ partners, organisations who work with care-leavers, support if you are fleeing violence and for young people whose housing is being affected by their immigration status.

Housing support we can provide

  • Advice about your housing and homelessness situation
  • Referrals to emergency and long-term housing
  • Support with immigration or your immigration status
  • Access to food, showers and laundry
  • Dealing with landlord problems
  • Getting your benefits in place
  • Budgeting and other useful skills
  • Support if you are care experienced and/or leaving care
  • Support when leaving prison

Additional support

Once you have referred yourself to the LYG, and we understand more about what housing support you need, we can also provide:
Jobs, education and training
  • Support with CVs, interview skills and job searching
  • Employability workshops
  • Links with employers and apprenticeship schemes
  • Support applying for college, university and training
  • Help to keep you in work or college when homeless
Physical health and mental health
  • Counselling
  • Referral to health services
  • Health checks
  • Youth work programme of activities such as sports and arts

  • Rights and entitlements
  • Support with your immigration status

  • Finding community
Setting up your home
  • Maximising income through budgeting, saving and claiming benefits
  • Advic with debt and rental arrears
  • Supporting to understand your tenancy rights and responsibilities
  • Help navigating services and how to advocate for yourself
  • Learning useful skills like cooking or making a home more comfortable
  • Support to access grants and signposting to useful services

Support is offered by the LYG through a partnership of 9 different organisations:

akt

akt supports lgbtq+ young people aged 16-25 who are facing or experiencing homelessness or unsafe. They help young people into safe homes and employment, education or training, in a welcoming and open environment.

Centrepoint

Centrepoint’s services aim to provide security to young people and inform on the causes of homelessness. They provide specialist services and supportive housing for single parents and looked-after children; those leaving care and escaping violence and abuse; and affordable accommodation for young people.

Coram Voice

Coram Voice work with children and young people with care experience, making sure they know their rights and help them to navigate the system, challenge decisions and make sure their rights and wellbeing are protected.

Depaul UK

Depaul UK supports young people who have been homeless or are at risk of homelessness. Every person we help has a unique situation and a unique set of needs, so we focus on the individual and offer tailored support.

Greater Change

Greater Change works to prevent or relieve poverty, focusing on people experiencing or at risk of homelessness through a cost-effective and dignified model of personalised budgets to fund exactly what each person needs.

NHYC

New Horizon Youth Centre is a day centre for 18-24 year olds experiencing homelessness. Providing housing advice and support, food, showers etc, mental and physical health, youth work activities, and jobs, education and training support.

Praxis

Praxis create positive change for and with those who are marginalised because of their immigration status. They give advice, provide support, and campaign so that migrants and refugees in the UK can live with safety, dignity and respect.

Settle Support

Settle supports young people with care experience or lack of familial support through the transition of moving into their first home. Weekly 1:1 coaching sessions provide support around sustaining a tenancy, practical life skills and emotional wellbeing.

Stonewall Housing

Stonewall Housing creates safe spaces for LGBTQ+ people. They ensure lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people live in safer homes, free from fear, and where we can celebrate our identity and support each other.
